How does an air spring work?


For coil-sprung vehicles, the air springs fit directly into the coil spring, then are expanded by adding air pressure to support the coils and prevent them from completely compressing, creating a smoother ride and restoring any ride height lost when a heavy load is applied.

 
How Often Should Air Springs Be Replaced?

Misalignment (this occurs when the upper and lower parts of the air springs aren't in the up and down position like they're supposed to be.
The girdle loop is loose.
If the air springs compress too far, bottom out abrasion could occur.
